At the Beginning - Term 1 2018

Today is the first day of school for 2018.

As a teacher, this year is the first time I have set up the class and planned for the beginning of the year. To say it has been exciting is an understatement for someone who loves planning, organising, and decorating.

All of that aside, the thing I am most excited about this year is meeting my new class. A group of students that I get to know, understand and build relationships with. A class where I get to teach and learn and co-create experiences with my students.

While last year was a steep learning curve like no other. I have taken a lot form that experience and have begun to figure out who I am as a teacher. I am still trying to figure out what works best for me, especially in terms of how to run a reading and maths programme that is both functional and engaging. However, I have learnt to take moments to have fun and do more of what my students value, like learning to code, art, drama, class games, music etc.

I have no doubt that it will be challenging too. I am looking forward to discovering the characters in my class, what makes them tick, what drives their learning, and how I can make 2018 the best year for them yet.

So here goes...
